SIGNAL BOOST - STRIPPED: The Final Push

ATTENTION ARTISTS AND CARTOONISTS!

Signal Boost!

What is STRIPPED?
STRIPPED is a love-letter to comic strips.  It brings together the world’s best cartoonists to talk about the art form they love, and what happens to it as newsprint fades away. Over 90 interviews were conducted, including the first-ever audio interview with Bill Watterson(Calvin & Hobbes), as well as Jim Davis (Garfield), Cathy Guisewite (Cathy), Mort Walker (Beetle Bailey), Mike & Jerry (Penny Arcade), Matt Inman (The Oatmeal), Jeff Keane (The Family Circus), Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics), Lynn Johnston (FBOFW),Zach Weiner (SMBC), Scott Kurtz (PvP), Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics),Richard Thompson (Cul de Sac), Jeph Jacques (Questionable Content), Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Bill Amend (Foxtrot), Kate Beaton (Hark! A Vagrant) and more. STRIPPED sits down with these creators to talk about how cartooning works, why it’s so loved, and how they’re navigating this dicey period between print and digital options…when neither path works perfectly.

Even more than comics, this movie’s about pursuing art in an age when the business of art is changing constantly.

A Quick Rundown Of Profits

Just a quick little look into my commissions profits. From January 1st until April 1st, I’ve hosted a Pick Your Price commission set up. The lowest price folks could pay me for any commission was $1 for No BG, $5 for BG.

Sounds like a risky move when you consider artists should value their work, right? Well, let’s take a look at the numbers.

Pick Your Price: Thoughts

At the beginning of January I made a list of resolutions for the year, with the biggest being that I improve my artwork, improve the output of said artwork and aim to build a portfolio for a rather prestigious college that I have absolutely no problem with busting my ass to go to. With that, I also decided that I wanted to see just how much plausible income one can make off of being a Freelancer.

If I’m posting my Minecraft stuff then I guess I might as well do the same with my 9 things. :T
Despite this being nothing more than a glorified sketch, I still like it.
So yes. Mopey Gale. I sketched it while listening to… various Silent Hill tracks. Most notably Hell Frozen Rain from the soundtrack for the ice-themed game. However I chose lyrics from Some Nights for the title because I associate that song with him. I actually sort of forgot I drew this until I was going through my recently-filled-up sketchbook to see if there was anything worth revisiting before I shelved it for the time being, and I found this! So I scanned it and kinda derped around with how I finished it up. Mostly regarding the background.I’m not sure why he only has two of his three arms visible, and one arm just kind of hanging in place while he’s got the other two sort of fidgeting / picking at his patch. I would have gone and added it but there’s only so much sketching and erasing you can do to a pencil sketch before the paper is at the stage where it’s grey and gross and embossed with lines from failed pencil strokes. And I really liked this sketch and I was afraid of doing that, soo. Only two arms out of three actually doing anything.
Okay I’ll shut up now.
